Wellness while Inside: Quarantine Edition

We had a totally different focus chosen for this week, but with everything going on in the world right now and how some individuals lives have changed drastically with schools closing, businesses shifting their models to have employees work from home. It's all a huge adjustment to our daily lives! But there are still some ways we can maintain our wellness while in this COIVD-19 Quarantine of 2020. Man, what a year it has been so far am I right?

It's almost like we're in a movie. Absolutely insane! It's normal to have struggling feelings and emotions during a time like this, but it is also important to realize that... we may be in this situation for awhile. Definitely a little longer than expected. So it's important that we also take care of ourselves in whatever small ways we can!

Here are some simple ideas how to do just that:

Essential Oils

There is a whole sciene behind aromatherapy and how essential oils are not for their pleasant scent! Though, that is just one of their amazing perks! They can provide support in areas like emotions, mood, energy and even some on immunity!

Essential oils are basically plant extracts. They're made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant to capture the compounds that produce fragrance! By diffusing and using these oils you can help boost your mood and also help uplift your space around you!

Which leads to the next point...

Create a "You" Space

During times such as these, it is important to still carve out what ever small sliver of time you have for you. A you space is for YOU. Maybe it's your bath tub. Maybe it's your yoga mat. But in these spaces completely focus on you. While your home will become your work space, school space, play space and so much more - you will need a you space. So decide where that is right now and dedicate it.

Follow Some Sort of Routine

There are so many benefits to routine - increasing productivity, wellbeing, decreasing stress. It may be challenging to stick to a rigid schedule at this time while you and your family are home and the world is pretty much shut down. But there are simple things you can try and go everyday:
  • meditation - trying services like Calm or Headspace for 5 minutes everyday to practice mindfulness
  • stretching or yoga - take a moment to relax your muscles, ease the tension in your shoulder and neck. slow down and appreciate your body
  • journalling - start with a daily gratitude journal and writing down things you like about yourself.
Tricks with mastering a routine is to not force it all at once. Start with one task you want to do routinely and start incorporating it into your daily life. Once you have mastered that task, go onto the next one!
