Linda Deborah
Linda Deborah comes from a very big African family. She was born in Congo where then her family moved to Canada when she was 17 years old. She now resides in Edmonton with her big family. Linda identifies as a Black woman; thus her lived experiences have been as a Black woman. She studied Political Science at the University of Alberta and enjoys everything about politics. She currently works as a family support worker, supporting families that are facing various difficulties.
She states: "I think and believe that politics plays a huge role in our everyday lives, whether we see it or not. Thus, I want to bring the effect of politics on our everyday lives to light". To her wellness means actualizing and being aware of how everyday things affect our mental health and well being. Wellness means doing everything in our power to create a good mental, physical, and emotional health state.
She is a part of The Intersection because "I am an advocate of mental health and mental health awareness, particularly for the Black community and for Black people. Black wellness is not a conversation that many people talk about or are even aware of, thus, I am a part of The Intersection because I want to bring such important issues and conversations to the forefront of Canadians and maybe someday, the world."
Linda will bring her unique take, perspective, knowledge, experience, and thoughts on issues and topics that she cares deeply about. Topics such as, mental health, politics, wellness, religion, history, BLM, feminism, social issues, social justice, allyship, and the everyday lived experiences of a regular Black Canadian woman.
We are so excited to have Linda on the team and can't wait to see how she further helps shape and develop the future of The Intersection to be even more inclusive and accessible to all those who may need it. As someone we already know personally, we know you will all love Linda and we know she will challenge us all in our own thoughts and perspectives to grow as individuals.
