First Aid Courses

Now that you have a bit more of an understanding of the importance of why having first aid could be so invaluable,  how do you know where to go?

There are so many places in Edmonton to get your first aid certification, and there are a variety of ways to take the course.

Available places includes:
St. Johns
Breath for Life
Red Cross
First Aid Safety Training
First Aid CPR Edmonton
Heart 2 Heart CPR
NAIT
Safety Class
Life Saver YEG
Swoop First Aid
Safety Edmonton
YMCA
And so much more.

What you need to determine is what you need, how you would like to take it, and what price point will work best for you.

Cost:
The cost for first aid varies depending on the type of first aid you are receiving. It can be anywhere on average between 75-120 dollars, with some basic courses being as low as $50 dollars. The best things to do is look at your options across different agencies once you have determined what level you need exactly.

Levels:
Standard First Aid CPR/AED (level A, C, or BLS) is the most common first aid and CPR training program that complies with most provincial first aid workplace regulations. It is usually a 2 day course that deal with both life threatening and non-threatening situations. Level C will usually cover adult, child, and baby skills and BLS is usually specific for healthcare providers. Level A is adult only.

Emergency First Aid Level C or BLS is usually only recommended if your workplace needs it. It is normally for workplaces that have more than 5 employees working at any given time per floor, per shift.

A CPR/AED Level C or BLS course will not meet up to any provincial regulation but it may be used as an accreditation for a professional license or school program requirement. This could include people like personal/fitness trainers, junior high physical education teachers, geriatric care providers, and so forth.

If you are completing first aid for school or work, make sure to look at their requirements and ensure that your agency you are taking the course from is provincially certified. If you are taking it just for your own personal use a CRP/AED course should be fine. And don't forget to look into your options of how you would like to take the course. Most 2 day courses now offer the option of doing part of it online and part of it in person!

Now go out and get looking!
