Occupational Wellness- what is it?
We all work hard to take care of ourselves and we tend to be pretty good at addressing our physical and emotional needs. But did you know occupational wellness is just as important? Many of you may have noticed on our about page that we have 8 pillars of wellness, and included in this is occupational wellness.
So what is it?
Occupational wellness can be defined as the ability to achieve a balance between work and leisure that promotes health, personal satisfaction, and is still financially rewarding. I mean doesn't that sound like the life? Isn't that what most, or almost ALL of us are trying to achieve? We want to be that person is who is exactly what they want to be doing and is content and comfortable with their work and leisure life. This is healthy.
So what do we look for with occupational wellness?
- Being engaged in motivating and interesting work
- Understanding how to balance work and play
- Working in a way that fits with you personal learning style
- Communication and collaboration with others
- Working independently and with others
- Feeling inspired and challenged at work
- Feeling good at the end of the day about the work you accomplished.
Our attitudes and ability to deal with work, school, and career goals greatly effect our wellness, performance, and interactions with others. While many people may not focus a lot of their time and energy into this sector, it does impact our day to day lives. If you have good occupational wellness you will be able to communicate your values in occupational activities, identify workplace stress and practice conflict management, and choose a career that is important to you.
Join us this week as we spend a little more time exploring this pillar of wellness!
