Tip Talk Thursdays: Practical Use for Essential Oils

When I was initially introduced into the essential oil world all I used them for was diffusing in pretty diffusers. I thought they made the air smell nice and that was that. It wasn't until I started doing some more research and digging into the history and science of essential oils that I realized - MAN I could use these little powerful plant concentrates for a lot of things!! They're not only to smell nice!!

I feel there are a couple things to understand before you start utilizing essential oils regularly:
  1. Essential Oils are concentrated compounds distilled from the leaves, flowers, stem, roots, wood or fruit from certain plants
  2. There are THREE ways you can use essential oils:
    1. Topical - applying the oils on your skin for transdermal absorption directly into the bloodstream to take effect
    2. Aromatically - diffusing, inhalation, anything that refers to breathing in the oils. Inhaling the oils allows for two ways of absorption: via the capillary network in the nose and lungs and the olfactory tract in the nose
    3. Ingestion - taking the essential oil via water, a veggie capsule or under the tongue to be broken down by the digestive tract and be absorbed into the bloodstream

Okay, now we've touched a bit on the science and let's dig into a WHOLE LIST of practical Essential Oil Tips & Tricks!

It's amazing these powerful little oils are natural and derived from plants once purchased from legitimate essential oil/aromatherapy companies and distributors! It's important to note that currently the essential oil distribution market is not monitored or regulated. Ensure you do your research on where your essential oils are coming from and what is truly in that bottle! If you are using an oil with a desired outcome in mind, it's important to ensure your oils are 100% pure and not filled with filler oil, fragrances and much more.
